Company Role
The Riyadh Metro project costing $22.5 billion is being delivered by a consortium that includes Bechtel, Almabani General Contractors, Consolidated Contractors Company, Strukton, (BACS)
Spanwall were employed by the world renowned Eiffage Metal, a company founded by Gustave Eiffel who built and gave his name to the Eiffel Tower as well as fabricating the steel frame for the Statue of Liberty, famously gifted to the people of the United States by France in 1886. The Spanwall scope was to manufacture and deliver to site the roof shading covering for the Line 3 Stations. Manufactured from 6mm Aluminium, these perforated panels with bespoke extrusions secured to the rear of each for mounting were finished in polyester powder coating (PPC) RAL9006
Using Spanwall’s CNC Machinery, that included a fully automated robotic welder, 1400 uniquely different panels per station were manufactured for each of the 11 stations. The logistics of processing that number of panels was a challenge requiring a modified factory layout with a robotic welder and production line to ensure the strict shipping dates were met.
When fabricated, special custom palletising in the triangular shape of the panels was provided by Spanwall to ensure safe transportation from the Spanwall factory in Belfast all the way to Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The new metro is due to fully open in 2024.
